Dynamic Social Agency

Casino Hotels

Four Canadian resorts, described by the part that works as a city room.

These four hotels stand in Canada and are described by the same rule as the rest of the site: which part of the complex works as a city room, and which part belongs to people staying the night. Halls, restaurants, parkland and waterfront are what outsiders use. The gaming floor is not described here, not assessed, and its workings are not discussed on this site at all.

Five

Montréal Casino & Hotel

Île Notre-Dame, Montréal, Québec, Canada

The island itself is open long before any building on it is, because this complex stands on Île Notre-Dame among parkland, water and paths that the city uses freely. People walk and cycle there without any intention of going indoors, and the grounds carry no threshold at all.

Getting to the complex on foot is a matter of crossing the park, and the restaurants and live programming inside are the parts most often used by people who are not staying. They are reached from the main entrance like any other city venue, though what is running varies.

Guests hold the rooms and the quieter circulation that belongs to them, upstairs and away from the public floors. That part of the building is small next to everything around it and asks nothing of the island outside.

The result is a building whose openness is mostly borrowed from its setting. The park does the welcoming, the complex answers with restaurants and a stage, and the accommodation sits above both.

Ask the property directly which restaurants and performance spaces are running when you plan to visit.

Six

Fallsview Casino Resort

Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

A long indoor gallery runs through this resort above the gorge, and people use it as a route and a viewpoint rather than as a hotel corridor. Shops, restaurants and a theatre open off it, and the windows along it face the falls.

Entering from the town puts you into that gallery without passing anything that reads as a hotel front desk. The theatre draws audiences who never see the accommodation, and the restaurants take bookings from people who came for the evening only.

Guests keep the tower and its lifts, which rise away from the public level. The rooms sit high above the gorge, and the part of the resort that belongs to them is quiet in a way the gallery never is.

The division runs vertically here. Everything the town uses is on the lower levels and everything private is stacked above it, so the building narrows as it becomes less open.

Confirm in advance whether the theatre has a programme on the evening you have in mind.

Seven

River Rock Casino Resort

Richmond, British Columbia, Canada

A concert hall and several restaurants form the open part of this resort in Richmond, and they are used by people from across the region who have no reason to stay the night. The complex sits beside the water, and the ground around it is used for walking.

Coming for an evening only is the ordinary way to meet this address. Audiences arrive for a show, eat, and leave, and the route between the entrance and the hall does not require passing the hotel reception at all.

Guests are given the wing that holds the rooms, along with the corridors and lifts that serve them. That wing keeps its own entrance points and reads as a separate building attached to a much busier one.

What the split does is make the hotel the smaller half of its own name. Most of the traffic through the site belongs to the concert hall and the restaurants, and the rooms sit to one side of it.

Ask what is on at the hall, and whether the waterfront paths nearby are open when you visit.

Eight

Casino Rama Resort

Rama, Ontario, Canada

An entertainment hall and a golf course give this resort its open side, and both draw people from across the region for a single evening or afternoon. The complex stands on the lands of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation, and that is stated plainly by the operator.

Arriving for a concert is the most common way in, and the hall has its own flow of audiences that never touches the accommodation. The restaurants work the same way, taking guests from the surrounding townships rather than from upstairs.

Guests keep the hotel wing and the calm that goes with it, which sits apart from the halls and the parking. It is the part of the site with the least happening, by design.

The pattern here is horizontal rather than stacked: open buildings and closed buildings sit beside each other on one site, joined by covered links rather than by lifts.

Ask ahead which parts of the site are running, since the programme changes through the year.

The four hotels in this section stand in Canadian provinces with their own age thresholds: nineteen and over in Ontario and British Columbia, eighteen and over in Québec. Gambling is not a way to make money. Support is available through ConnexOntario on 1-866-531-2600, in Québec on 1-800-461-0140, and in British Columbia on 1-888-795-6111.
